Calmy planted in the ground or lazily flotting in the sea, plants can appear boring and insignificant. Yet a long time ago they went out of the sea to conquier the entire world, like no emperor ever achieved. Despite they cannot run or fight, plants adapted to the immense variety of environments on Earth. Come discover the secrets of the incredible adaptation capabilities of plants, and understand how they succeed where Alexandre the Great failed !

Green boots on the ground: how did plants conquer land?

Dr Hugues Renault (Chercheur Institut de biologie moléculaire des plantes)
Plants are everywhere you look. Can you imagine that, over 500 million years ago, land was a mineral environment devoid of green? We will set off for a journey in ancient times to explore how early plants successfully emerged from water and profoundly changed planet Earth.

Plant adaptation, a fascinating mecanism.

Lucas Jilli (Doctorant UPR2357, équipe du Dr Achard Patrick.)
Plant biodiversity that we know today is the fruit of the adaptation of plants to the variety of habitats. Plants are fixed organisms and must deal with a multitude of biologic or environmental stresses. To answer these stresses, signals are generated by the plant, to modify the shape and the size of the plants to enable it to adapt to these new conditions. I will take you to a journey through the most unlikely cases of plant adaptation !
